I have been working on Rosette 9 on The New Hexagon Millefiore Quilt Along and I should get that one finished tonight.  I have been totally obsessed with this project and don't seem to be working on anything else, but I must take a break and work on some other projects. 

My grandson's quilt must get finished and in the mail.  His birthday is coming up in December.  I will be adding a border to the backing to solve the issue of it being the same size as the front and since I will be free motion quilting it, the backing needs to be a few inches larger than the top.  Thank you to one of my readers, Ivani, for the suggestion.  She does some lovely work so check out her blog here.

So far I have pin basted all my large quilts even though I have had 3 cans of 505 in my quilting supplies.  I've been worried that they will come apart during the quilting process since some of my practice sandwiches have.  I guess I may need to use more spray a large quilt.  I also watched two videos on a different technique for hand basting large quilts.    Here are the links for those tutorials:

I'm wondering if anyone out there has tried this process and can tell me their experience using it.  It would be greatly appreciated.

I'm still waiting on the next block for the Christmas Mystery Quilt Blog Hop and some wool that I've ordered to start a felted wool stash.

This week we have been having some beautiful sunsets so I thought I would share one of those with you. 

 

 

 



Our medical and dental appointments have been moving right along and we actually don't have too much going on during the month of November.  I go in to the eye doctor on November 4th to schedule my cataract surgeries and I'm hoping those can be done in November or December, at the latest, as we are still hoping to be back on the road right after Christmas or New Years. 

I have done a lot of stitching this week, but it has all been a lot of slow stitching so I'm linking up to Slow Sunday Stitching with Kathy.

Friday I finished up Rosette 1 of The New Hexagon Millefiore Quilt Along.  I am way behind as I had just found out about this when most folks participating were working on Rosette 8 or 9.  Its been so long I can't remember when I started working on this.  But I am thrilled that I've gotten this far and I love it and the process of English Paper Piecing.  The hexagons contained in this are divided up into several, usually 6 pieces.  It is never too late to join in so be sure to check it out if you have an interest in EPP.  If I can do it, anyone can.

Another slow stitching this week was actually done yesterday when I stitched out "Family" for the Christmas Wreath Stitch Along, by Jenny of Elefantz.  I have really enjoyed doing this and this week we'll get the instructions for putting it all together.  The patterns for this are free until the end of this month, October.  She has some beautiful embroidery designs and offers a lot of free patterns.

Another block arrived in the mail this week for the Christmas Mystery Quilt Blog Hop and I have it already to blanket and stem stitch which may or may not happen today.  I haven't decided if I'm going to put the string of lights on the antlers yet.  I really like it with just the holly necklace.  This is being sponsored by Farmhouse Threads with the reindeer block created by Shawn over at Rusty Crow.  The next block is in the mail and I'm hoping it will arrive early this week so I can get it ready to stitch out as we'll be headed down to Las Vegas for the weekend to spend time with family.

No rain this week, but the days have cooled down which is a blessing as those triple digit temps were no fun for any of us and especially our pup, Lola who has longer fur and most of it is black.

I still haven't worked on getting my grandson's quilt sandwiched and quilted.  I've been having to think hard on this one as I made the back the same size as the front and usually I have the back several inches larger on all sides.  My dilemma is out how to put it together for quilting.  Any suggestions?

We have rain, puddles, and thunderstorms this morning which means I'll have to stay inside and stitch to my heart's content.  That is except for walking sweet Lola who is wearing her Thunder Shirt since she panics when there is thunder and lightening.

I have some finishes to report.  First I finished the candle block which is part of the Christmas Mystery Quilt Blog Hop from Farmhouse Threads.  I love it.  I'm waiting for the next block kit to arrive from Rusty Crow which is a cute reindeer.  I ordered the next block from Wooden Spool Designs which is the cutest block ever with a sheep and Christmas tree.  It's not to late for you to join in on all the fun.  These are wool applique blocks and I'm ordering all the kits as I have yet to build up a wool stash.  I'm sure that will come and soon I hope.  I need to find a place to purchase wool close by or online.  Any suggestions?

In an attempt to build that wool stash, I visited our local Goodwill store and snagged two men's wool jackets, felted them, and now am deconstructing them.  Here is the pile from yesterday and there is still more to go.  One of the jackets was a brown tweed and the other charcoal.  My next trip will hopefully be this next Wednesday (senior day and 50% off) so I can look for some wool skirts as I think they would be much easier to deconstruct that the men's jackets.

My next two finishes were the next two hexagons (Merry and Jesus) for the Christmas Wreath Stitch-Along by Jenny of Elefantz.  One more to go and then instructions for putting them together.  I am enjoying doing some embroidery work again.  Thank you Jenny for these free patterns. 



I'm still working on my hexie project and have 4 of the 36 "rose" ones that I need.  I didn't have enough of the material to make them all the same so am alternating the rose patterns.

I do believe that I have one too many projects going on at this time. 

My first priority now is to get Scrappy Mountain Majesties quilted for my grandson.  I'll head down to the clubhouse today to see if anyone is in the craft room that I can talk to about a time when I can move tables together for an afternoon so I can pin baste the quilt and then I can get busy free motion quilting it.  Front is on the left and the back is on the right.

Yesterday I received my first wool applique kit from Farmhouse Threads and I also ordered the second block from Rusty Crow.  These blocks are part of Christmas Mystery Quilt Blog Hop sponsored by Farmhouse Threads.  Be sure to check this blog hop out and join in.  After all, what's one more project.  I need to print out the pattern and then cut the pieces out.  Looking forward to stitching my first wool block.

I finally finished Round 3 of Rosette 1 and have started auditioning fabric for the final round of the rosette.  It will take forever for me to complete, but I'm determined.  I need to find some other fabric for the diamond shapes and one of the hexagons as I'm not real happy with the red and green at this point.  The rose material will circle around the whole Rosette. 

I also have three of the hexagons for the Christmas Wreath and have traced the patterns onto fabric for the next two, Jesus and Merry.  That leaves only one more and the embroidery will be finished. 

 

 

I have one more quilt top that needs to be quilted and that is my Grand Illusion which needs to be quilted before the end of December as it is for our bed and sometime after Christmas we hope to be on the road again.  First stop will be Quartzsite in Arizona.  I've never been there and it is one of those bucket list items.

More medical and dental appointments going on this week and next week.  I keep telling myself that this too shall pass and believe me I'll be glad when it does. 

What a beautiful day it is here today with the sun shining, which it hasn't done for the past two days.  We had lots of thunderstorms come through and now there are lots of puddles.  Even had flooding on many of the roads Sunday.

Sunday, I spent the day working on the October clue for my Midnight Mystery quilt.  What I worked on was a big, and I mean big, square, when finished  it measures 19x19".  I'm really liking it and can't wait to see how it all comes together.  If you haven't heard, I love mystery quilts and haven't been disappointed yet.  Do you like them?

The first clue was to choose fabric.  I had been wanting to do a red, white, and blue quilt for awhile, but this one took four different fabrics so I added in some gold.  I didn't have the right yardage in my stash so I ordered from Connecting Threads and was very pleased with all of it when it arrived.

The next clue was cutting and then making lots of geese, more than one flock I do believe.  36 of those geese in all and then came clue 3 which was 34 square-in-a-square blocks.

Yesterday I was working away on the hexagon project.  It was coming along very nicely and then I sewed the next piece on the wrong side, ripped it out and then sewed it wrong again.  At that point I decided it would be best if I put it away and do something else.

That something else was a project I snagged from Marsha over at Quilter in Motion.  If you aren't following her, you need to as she has wonderful ideas and is a great inspiration to all, not to mention she posts these wonderful ideas on Friday Finds.  The project I snagged is from Jenny of Elefantz and is a Christmas Wreath Stitch-Along.  I haven't done embroidery in quite sometime and I'm loving it so far, even though I'd had to redo a few stitches, okay, maybe several stitches.  Below is a picture of the first hexagon which, as you can tell, is Love.

Later today I'll get back to working on my hexie project.

It has been a busy few days since my last post.  We are all settled into our new site and I'm back to having fun.  I did get "Fly" done and have it hanging outside our 5th wheel.  Thank you Marsha over at Quilter in Motion who shared her pattern with me as it is out of print.  You can see her "Fly" here.  It'll be hanging out there until the first of November.  I'm still searching for the right banner to make for Thanksgiving/November.  I did find one that said Gobble til you Wobble which is how I'm feeling today; I have been gobbling way too much and now I'm wobbling.  Back to healthy eating for me.

 

While we were in Las Vegas last weekend visiting family I, of course, went to Jo-Ann's and purchased lots of goodies.  One of my objectives was to find a container to put all my EPP goodies in and I found one.

 

Other than getting back to Nevada after our summer campground hosting in Idaho and obtaining our membership into the RV co-op which will be our home base, was to get all our medical and dental done, hopefully for the year.    So, yesterday my husband had an aorta scan, which I'm sure isn't the official name of what he had done, but its the best I can do.  When we headed out for his appointment, I grabbed my new container and sat in the car EPPing while he had his scan.  I was so excited to have a small portable project I could work on while waiting for him.  It was like being a kid in a candy store.

 

 

I'm currently working on round 3 of the New Hexagon Quilt Along which has two different hexagons which alternate all the way around round 2.  I'm hoping my fabric choices work out as I don't have a lot of material to play with.  So far I'm just using FQs for this project.



I checked out the craft room in the clubhouse here and I think I'll be able to lay out Jonathan's quilt to get it sandwiched and pinned so I can get it quilted and in the mail.  I've been saying this for several weeks now and just need to do it.
